What is the difference between EPC & PMC?

In the construction industry, Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) is a form of contracting agreement where the contractor is responsible for all the engineering services on a project. This includes detailed engineering design of the project, procurement, and production of construction materials and equipment as well as commissioning, delivery of completed, functional construction or facility to the client. The EPC service provider is required to complete the construction and delivery within an agreed time and budget. These contracts are also known as Turnkey Contracts as it obliges the contractor to deliver a facility that can start operating with the turn of a key.
Project Management Consultancy (PMC) or Project Management Services is a contract where a consultant will oversee the EPC contractors’ work to ensure compliance and execution of the project in accordance with the client’s scope of work. Project Management Consultancies plan, implement, solve problems and manage all the activities involved in the EPC project, dealing with various factors such as cost budgeting, stakeholders, human resources, scheduling, risk identification, monitoring and controlling. PMC also enables the provision of experts from different fields to ensure the successful completion of the project aligned with the client’s goals and objectives.
Project Management Consultancy is an interface between the EPC contractor and the client. PMC’s are usually involved with the total project life cycle from conception to project closeout. The type of services provided depends on the scope and scale of projects as PMC takes prominence in cases of complex and large ventures that call for close coordination.
